With many Boyle Heights residents unfamiliar with and intimidated by the prospect of interacting with local government, our Community Organizing programs encourage awareness, confidence, and training to advocate for community needs, and increased unity among neighbors.
• Neighbors Building Neighborhoods Action Committees, which bring residents together to address critical community concerns such as the revitalization of the neglected Wabash Recreation Center
• Leadership Development Academy, which graduates 15 residents/yr. from a training course covering subjects including public speaking and policy development
• Community Plan Development, which helped over 200 residents to develop their own community plan, the Plan del Pueblo
• Land Use Research and Policy Analysis
• Street Vendor Organizing, which fights for vendors' rights to earn a living, assists in formalizing their businesses, and helps expand their income potential
