At 3 p.m. today it was announced that the Street Vendor Movement is one step closer to making history in the state of California. State Senate Bill 946 (SB946), the Safe Sidewalk Vending Act introduced by Senator Ricardo Lara just passed through the Assembly’s Local Government Committee with a 5-1 vote!

SB946 is an important statewide proposal to decriminalize street vending in California and ensure permit programs are designed with public safety and health in mind, not discrimination against vendors. Stay tuned for action alerts as the Safe Sidewalk Vending Act is now headed to the full Assembly floor and we need everyone’s support to make sure our Assemblymember’s support it.

If you and/or your organization want to get involved in this important statewide work, email Carla, our Director of Organizing: cdepaz@elacc.org.

Thank you to all of our partners working on this bill, special thanks to Senator Ricardo Lara, LURN, Public Counsel, LA Food Policy Council, Carlos Ortez, Un Solo Sol small business owner, who traveled to Sacramento to speak in support of Vendor Leaders, and of course the Vendor Leaders across the state!
